What to expect at an appointment?

Overview of what to expect at an appointment?

what ti expect.webp

Visiting a chiropractor for the first time can feel unfamiliar, but we’re here to make the process simple and supportive. At Advantage Chiropractic, we take the time to understand your health goals and what’s brought you in, whether it’s a recent injury, chronic pain, or something preventative. Your initial appointment is structured to give you answers, clarity, and a personalised care plan.

Our approach combines a thorough assessment with tailored treatment, all delivered in a relaxed and professional environment. We’re ACC registered, so if your issue is injury-related, we can lodge and manage your claim directly. No referral is needed. From your very first visit, we’re focused on helping you feel better, move better, and stay better.

Step 1: We Listen

Your appointment begins with a conversation. We’ll ask about your health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, past injuries or surgeries, and your personal health goals. This helps us understand the root cause of your discomfort and how we can help.

You may be asked about:

  • Daily activity and posture habits

  • Exercise or sports strain

  • Sleep and stress patterns

  • Work-related movements or positions

Step 2: We Assess

We carry out a physical examination to assess how your spine, joints, and nervous system are functioning. This may include:

  • Postural and movement analysis

  • Spinal and joint palpation

  • Orthopaedic and neurological testing

  • Referral for imaging (e.g. x-rays) if needed

This helps us identify problem areas and ensures that chiropractic care is safe and suitable for you.

Step 3: We Plan

Your chiropractor will explain what’s going on and create a care plan tailored to your condition and goals. You’ll know what type of care we recommend, how often you should come in, and what outcomes you can expect.

Step 4: We Start Care

If appropriate, you’ll receive your first adjustment during this visit. Your chiropractor will choose techniques that are safe, specific, and comfortable for you. This may include hands-on adjustments, table-assisted techniques, or soft tissue work.

ACC or Private Care

Depending on why you’re coming in, your appointment may be covered by ACC.
If your issue is the result of an injury or accident, we can start and manage your ACC claim for you, no referral needed. If your care isn’t injury-related, we can still help under private care.

Follow-Up Appointments

Ongoing visits follow your care plan. Each session is focused on tracking progress and building on previous results. This may include adjustments, soft tissue work, and stretches or advice to support long-term results.

Your chiropractor will:

  • Reassess your function and movement

  • Perform any necessary adjustments

  • Provide soft tissue work, stretches, or advice to support recovery

  • Track your progress and adapt your plan as needed

Standard follow-up visits usually take 10–15 minutes.

What You Might Feel After an Adjustment

After your session, it’s common to feel lighter, more mobile, or even slightly tired. Some people notice temporary soreness, like post-workout stiffness. Staying hydrated and active can help ease this as your body adapts.

Choosing the Right Chiropractor

The results you get from chiropractic care depend on the experience, skill, and approach of your chiropractor. It’s important to choose someone who not only understands the body but also takes the time to understand you.

At Advantage Chiropractic, we combine clinical expertise with a patient-first approach. Our chiropractors are highly trained, ACC registered, and committed to delivering care that’s both effective and tailored to your needs.
